LOCATION

I see a great city whose glory shall touch the stars. There is a place in the woods, thirty leagues distant, with the Vltava River around it, bordered at midnight by the deep valley of the Brusnice Brook and at noon by the rocky mountain beside the forest of Strahov. When you come there, you shall find a man in the middle of the forest, carving the threshold of a house. And the castle you shall build shall be called Prague.

Princess Libuše herself knew that this place was truly exceptional. The place where the history of the beautiful city of Prague was written has something to offer for all ages, not only in terms of history, but also in terms of the modern innovations.

You can spend your leisure time in places that literally invite you to relax and places where you can find plenty of fun and exercise. This place is unique when it comes to parks and gardens. There are countless of them in the vicinity of the Vyšehradská 33 Residence.

The surrounding area boasts several historical monuments. The most famous is the national cultural monument Vyšehrad with its dominant feature, the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul. Every hour, the chimes ring and make the whole Vyšehrad resonate with majestic compositions.

Did you know that in the underground corridors of the fortress, the so-called casemates, there is the Gorlice, where six original sculptures from the Charles Bridge are located? You can visit the mysterious casemates of Vyšehrad as part of an interesting tour.

Vyšehrad is, of course, a historical stronghold, a castle and fortress surrounded by massive bastion walls with the oldest Prague rotunda of St. Martin. It is also the site of the legend of knight Horymír and his faithful horse Šemík.

In the park gardens of Vyšehrad, you can enjoy not only a magnificent view of the whole of Prague from various places and angles, but also Myslbek’s sculptures from the Palacký Bridge.

Almost around the corner of the Vyšehradská 33 Residence you can find monumental shell wings with gilded spires of the Emauzy Monastery, an important landmark originally built by Charles IV. In addition to the monastery, you can also reach the Church of St. John on the Rock, an important monument of the dynamic Czech Baroque.

Just a few steps away there is the beautiful Botanical Garden, which offers not only a view of the unique giant bonsai, redwoods or subtropical palms, but also a variety of interesting outdoor and greenhouse activities for children and adults.

The Embankment, which is also in the immediate vicinity, is bursting with cultural life. Thanks to its redesign, it has become a popular venue for various social events. But you can also take a stroll here and enjoy a drink in one of the bars located in interestingly designed dungeons with giant glass circular doors.

The Charles Square, the largest square in Europe, with a number of historic buildings, a park, a large public transport intersection and a B metro station, is just a few minutes’ walk away. Its greatest highlight is the New Town Hall.

One of the interesting structures in this location is the Railway Bridge, which, like Charles Bridge, is one of the panoramas of the Hradčany area as viewed from Vyšehrad. It connects the Nusle Valley with Smíchov and can be crossed on foot.

Within walking distance of the residence there are complex civic amenities such as kindergartens,
grammar school, grocery stores, restaurants, cafés and public transport stops.
